Green, with Polka Dots: Dual Widescreen Wallpaper

With all the white and gray we've had lately, it was nice to go back a few months in the archives, and work on something green.

The 3840x1200-size version for dual widescreen wallpapers is here. (because blogger somehow can't handle the size)

High Desert Sunset: Dual Widescreen Wallpaper

A nearly monochrome sunset photo... Don't see too many of those, do you?  Not sure why I like this one, but I do.

If you want the download, you have to go here.   Blogger doesn't support pictures this large (3840x1200).

American Savannah

I don't know why this makes me think of the African Savannah-- I think maybe the tree has something to do with it. (which you might recognize from "Milky Way Tree")

I notice that the colors are so strong they're really pushing my monitors capabilities.  So if the colors look bad to you, it may be a difference in our monitors' abilities.  Let me know, tho.  No point putting stuff out that nobody but me can see!

Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability at Dawn: Dual Widescreen Wallpaper

Working on this soft pastel taken at City of Rocks Idaho, I noticed the beautiful example of a Kelvin-Helmholtz instability in the clouds.  For you non-geeks, its the "breaking waves" formation at the center of the frame.  Check it out at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelvin-Helmholtz_instability

Ahhh, Science!  It even happens to artists!

Edit:  Blogspot got me again!  If you want the full-size 3840x1200 version, get it here:

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Kodachrome Harvest

A Paul Simon moment around harvest time.  The fall sun saturates the colors in a way that practically forces me to hum "Kodachrome" to myself as I look around.  And Oh, look here--I got a Nikon camera; I love to take photographs...

Milky Way Tree

What you get when you stay up late without a fire...
Wide awake because the huge thunderstorm that just went through ripped a grommet off the tent, and I half soaked myself trying to fix it (without actually leaving my sleeping bag)  and now what do I see but clear clear sky.  After months of Idaho wildfire smoke.  Ahhhh... heaven.

Root Ball

An old tree that went to sea, but couldn't get back on shore.

Another shot from the same session.  Just playing around with getting the light and background about right.

Dippy Z: Nissan 350Z Wallpaper

I haven't worked on any automotive stuff for quite a while, so I figured it was time to try again.  This 350 Z is "Dippy" because I got rid of all the bright aluminum and chrome highlights with Plasti-Dip spray.  Awesome stuff for emblems and detail work, but I don't know yet how long it will last.  I certainly do like the Anthracite trim color better than aluminum.

Oh by the way-- download size is 1920 x 1200, if anyone wants to use it as wallpaper.

Don't Go In There!

A little cave we down-climbed past coming off Bell Mountain summit.  Colorful rock, crazy lichen, and who knows what watching us go by.

Cubist. Period.

This one's a little subtle, so might not appeal to very many.  I like the 2 lonely fractal trees against the backdrop of hundreds of rectangles.  The reflective roofing, whatever it may be, also adds a nice element to the light.

PS.  Sorry it's been so long.  I've been a little busy.

Reclining Cool 7

More curvy snow.  Think I can see some tan lines in there-- must be rummy from all this spring heat (40F!)

Reclining Cool 3

More snow nymphs frolicking in the cool frozen woods of the Rockefeller Parkway, Wyoming.  In case you've forgotten and are interested, photos 1 and 2 of Reclining Cool are here, and here.  Stay warm out there!

Cold Josh

Hey, look what I found-- a left-over from last year!  This Joshua Tree in Socorro, NM was probably a little surprised to find itself under all that snow.  If I remember correctly, there was a foot on the ground that day.
