Titcomb Basin Panorama-- Dual Widescreen Wallpaper

Jan. 29, 2012. This is one of my more popular shots at something over 7,000 downloads so far. If you're here looking for dual monitor wallpapers, I've collected several of mine into one location at

Check it out and leave me a comment while you're there. Cheers!

Titcomb Basin in the Wind Rivers. I'm sitting here watching in snow outside and remembering summer. Best go outside and take more winter shots soon.

This is sized at 3840 x 1200 for Dual Widescreen monitor setups again.

Must be hanging out with the kids too much. Could equally well have named this "Nebula Capitata Rubra", but couldn't help thinking of brains...

The Sun Goddess in Mom's garden. A little chilly out there this time of year, but she seems serene enough.

Leet Heart --Dual Widescreen

A little bit of summer to get you through the longest winter night of the year. This shot is from Green River Lake in Wyoming. The log in the foreground reminded my of my daughter's Leet hearts ( like so, for you oldies <3 ), but I guess it's backwards... Regardless, more dawns like this are just around the corner!

Download size is 3840 x 1600 for you dual widescreen enthusiasts.

Two-Tiner

I really like the silvery light coming through this funny icicle. I can imagine some of the comments this one will get, but I'm posting it anyway. Just try to focus on the quality of the light. sheesh.

Tapestry, with bugs

It's fall and the yellowjackets are looking for a place to hide from the cold. Hundreds of the poor little buggers have congregated on our folded umbrella in hopes of salvation. They don't know my wife too well...

Moran Morning 2: Dual Widescreen Wallpaper

Another dual widescreen submission. Download size is 3840 x 1200 px.

This shot reminds me of sipping Peets french roast coffee waiting for the bacon to fry, so we can go fishing. What a miserable existence. Heh.

A scene from the District Cross Country meet today. I love all the acceleration in this shot. Acceleration is good.

Oh, yeah. This is post 100. How 'bout that?

Post 99. Wow. This one was a tough exposure-- might mess around with it a bit more in the next few days...

Clearing at Sunset: Dual Widescreen Wallpaper

I felt like putting up something for the dual monitor crowd today. This is formatted for two widescreen monitors at 3840 x 1200px. Subject is a sunset at City of Rocks (ID) earlier this summer, with a storm just clearing out.

Feed Box

Nothing dramatic today. Just liked the way that the light from the hole in the roof hit this old feed box. Thanks for the comments! They shouldn't matter, but I find that they do anyway. Quite a bit, actually.

Edit to Gray Morning

The conversion to sRGB seems to have really killed yesterday's post (or maybe it was operator error, again). Anyway, I've messed with it to try to bring a little pop back. Hopefully not too much.
I'm not re-posting the old one, so you'll just have to compare from memory ;-)

Gray Morning

Weather moving into the Wind Rivers back in August. We met some hikers coming out of there later that day who' d been turned back by several inches of snow obscuring the trail. Of course, the rest of the weekend was beautiful.

Room with a View

I know, I know-- nothing for a whole month. But I have been shooting, so at least I would have something to work on, if I ever sat down and worked on it. Maybe this winter-- yeah, that's the ticket!

This is the view from an old ranch bunkhouse up by Green River Lakes in Wyoming. Cowboys never got paid much, but they always have had the best offices.

Dual Widescreen Wallpaper-- Hot Storm

Jan. 29, 2012. This shot seems to be getting kind of popular at something over 10,000 downloads so far. If you're here looking for dual monitor wallpapers, I've collected several of mine into one location at

http://wetdog969.deviantart.com/gallery/26748154

Check it out and leave me a comment while you're there. Cheers!

--------

I messed around a bit to turn a few of last week's shots into a dual monitor wallpaper for my setup at work. Resolution of the download file is 3840 x 1200. I can't really see how it looks here on my home machine (monitor is *way* too small), so if it doesn't turn out very well, this could go away, or possibly get repaired if I can do it. Cheerio!

.

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

I just can't seem to sleep in hotels. So I decided to work on a picture tonight instead. These are some aspens along the trail to Oliver Peak, near Victor Idaho.

You might notice I'm trying something new today. Rather than upload this photo to blogger, I've put it on deviantart.com, who most graciously store it at whatever resolution I send them, rather than capriciously whacking it down to 1600 pixels on a side. So, if one can download this and see it at its native resolution, I can begin posting some wallpaper-scale stuff, as has been requested. These aspen are 1920x1200 pixels, just right for a wide-aspect monitor on its side.

Sizzle

Ok, just one last lightning shot, then we'll move on. Oh, yes-- my sister will notice that I've finally taken her advice and started copyright marking these things. What do you think? Too big? Too fancy? All comments considered...

Twins

More lightshow from Sunday night's storm. Although it looks like a direct hit on my neighbor's shed, the lightning is actually quite a bit further away. Whew...

High Drama 3

I love lightning... just as long as its not aiming for *my* house.

Finger Rock 2

Here's Finger Rock, at the edge of City of Rocks National Reserve, near Albion, Idaho. This is number 2, because Finger Rock 1 is a rainy looking shot, and I didn't want to post yet another one of those without a brief respite. Enjoy some sun!

High Drama 2

After posting yesterday's cloudy sky, I found that other people's monitors show darks more darkly than mine does, so all the detail in the the cloud base I was looking at was probably lost on most. Here's another cloudy sky with a bit lighter cast.

High Drama

The photography book I'm reading (slowly) recommends that I go shoot some dramatic skies, so that I can paste them later into shots with otherwise dull and uninteresting skies. I figure this sky is about dramatic enough... Now what could I possibly put in front of it?

Halo on Teewinot

Just a cheesy postcard shot tonight. But I kinda like it anyway.

I have a small confession to make to my (2) loyal readers. "Peculiar Clouds" is a trick picture. No, its not photoshopped, except that I published it upside-down. It's actually a photo of a reflection in water. The "clouds" are spots of sun on the surface. That's why you can see pebbles in them ;-)

Huddle for Warmth

Poor Daffodils... They've been taking a beating this year. I feel more like a floral war correspondent than an artist this spring. At least you won't have to look at any of the brutally abusive wind (45 mph) photos. (Getting the camera wet is one thing, but *dusty* is another entirely.) For their fragile look, the little flowers have proven remarkably resilient-- sun came out, wind died, and the little guys stood up straight again just like nothing had happened.

Frost Flags

A close-up of frost on the apple trees. Was thinking of naming this "Apple Blossoms,"
but that seemed a bit snarky. Besides, with any luck, this tree may actually have some blossoms on it to shoot someday.

This is a nearly identical photo to a shot posted back in early January. But now its March, the bow wave is deeper, and it's still snowing!

Desert sunset from waaay back last summer. Can you believe it was ever warm outside? S'pose it'll ever happen again? I'll be ready if it does.

Maybe I need a field camera...

Probably my last entry from the University of Virginia--an anonymous neighbor of the Rotunda at UVA. I liked the red, white and blue contrasts here, but by necessity shot from close range with a wide angle lens. The resulting distortions and time to correct them (only sorta) made me think of possible future purchases ($ching$)

Eye Bender 2

Just a closeup of the "Change of Heart" post. I decided to leave a little anchor for the eye at the right edge of the photo for your eye to go to. Cropping to just the pattern of the round columns makes the light source invert (turn inside-out) back-and-forth for me. What do you think? Look at it as-is, then put a hand up over the right edge and look. Any difference?

.

Change of Heart

The Lawn area at UVA is lined along both sides with column-fronted buildings. At some point in time, someone had a change of heart about what style the columns should be. Apparently they changed their minds back again pretty quickly.

Dance with Me

From the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville, Virginia. Very interesting place with a treasure trove of history and great architecture (at least in the old part of campus). Unfortunately, I was only able to spend a few hours there, but it would be cool to go back in the spring when there are a few more leaves...

Cold War Allegory

Hmmm, Hope I'm using that word right. This is really just a pile of farm junk ready to be hauled off. I just liked how the jets/rockets and tangled wire went together.

I've got a busy schedule for the next three weeks, so posts will be a little scarce until March. But I promise I'll be back.

Frost Lines

More pictures of snow and frost. Funny... we seem to have quite a bit of the stuff around here. I suppose I'll be taking more photos of it for another month or two. Don't mind a bit. It does great things with light that I really enjoy.

Transitory

The beauty of a thin shield of ice shining in the sun certainly is transitory-- especially if there's someone watching you take a picture of if. This flake got clobbered by a big kid with a rock about 10 seconds after I took this shot. So, is it better to not look too closely, and let it melt slowly in the sun, or to record the splendor for posterity, thus bringing about its immediate, though not intentional, demise?

Purple Haze

OK, the title is probably a bit of a stretch, but naming these photos is kind of an exercise in free association, and that's just what popped into my head. The skyline is the Teton Range (with the Grand Teton in the middle) peaking over the top of the Big Hole Range, as shot from about 90 miles away.
